My wife and I were traveling cross-country in our 2018 Mercedes Sprinter camper van when an alert popped up on our dash to let us know we had 16 starts left. We had not seen this before, and became nervous that the van wouldn't start if we shut it off so we kept it running until we arrived in Omaha (the nearest Sprinter dealer) and parked for the night. Sure enough, that next morning the van wouldn't start--this was two days before Thanksgiving! We had the van towed to the dealership, and Chance graciously took us right in and assigned a tech to look at the van. The issue was that we had a ground wire loose in the main wiring harness that set off all kinds of sensors, and wouldn't allow the van to start. We camped at the dealership for two days waiting for parts and were back on the road headed West, hoping to make it home for Thanksgiving. The van broke down again in Wyoming due to a Nox sensor that hadn't been seated properly at the dealership. This caused the van to enter the dreaded 16 starts left protocol again. Just FYI, if you get this message, and don't shut the van off and drive 500 miles, it may not start again as it calculates the remaining starts based on the DEF running out. I spoke with the General Manager after we got home and he very graciously refunded us for expenses that occurred after we left the dealership. It was a simple mistake and I appreciate the dealerships willingness to make it right with us. THANK YOU Mercedes Benz of Omaha!
